Blogasms: On the Visual Categories Plugin

1200 lines of code later, my plugin is published. I’ve spent at least 200 hours developing this plugin. Having never written a submittable plugin before, let me tell you, the formatting of the readme file was enough to make me want to throw in the towel. It’s like that final 100 miles of a cross-country trip.

Anyway, I think it’s a great plugin. Your categories are an incredibly important part of your site. There seems to be a lot of emphasis on tags. Tags are good for getting search engine traffic. However, once you get a person to your site, categories are what get them to stay. While tags reflect all of you site’s content, categories reflect a site’s theme and purpose.

After an internet bender such as this, I fear the coming all-digital age. Working 8 hours a day has done nothing to stem my growing ADHD produced by hours of visual stimulation produced by a bright digital display. I plan to continue reading The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. Any book would do though. The tangibility of books, of real things, helps keep my mind rooted in reality. At this point, something like a Kindle would elicit a malfunction.
